Henkel Corporate Design Relaunch 2010/2011. A Worldwide Implementation in Record Time.

The Henkel corporate design portal: An external solution to support implementation activities – seamlessly integrated into the Henkel intranet.

The Henkel corporate design portal was developed in 2010 in order to support the implementation measures within the scope of the corporate design re-launch to take place in early 2011. The challenge was to work out a user-friendly solution in less than three months that was to provide all internal and external users in an optimum way with all relevant information and materials about the corporate design change.

The special challenge consisted in seamlessly integrating the brand portal solution both technologically and according to corporate design rules and regulations into the Henkel intranet, while at the same time providing content for external stakeholders like e.g. agencies in a differentiated manner.

Following the analysis of the IT conditions and framework of the customer, we developed an individually tailored solution and performed the initial content filling of more than 500 pages of corporate design guidelines, relevant templates and other downloads. We did this in close coordination with the IT department and the customers branding agency.

The corporate design portal was seamlessly integrated into the Internet via iFrame technology, safeguarding the predefined look and feel. The portal is technologically separated from the intranet infrastructure while still being part of the latter insofar as it is accessible by all employees via the central login functionality, thanks to single sign-on.

External users can also register for the portal. Authorization takes place in a self registration process. The respective Henkel contact person is informed by email and can provide or deny access. This distributes the otherwise time-consuming administration process to many individuals while creating a direct connection between agencies and employees/departments. The portal interface for external users has been amended accordingly.

A best-practice area provides users with successful examples of implementation measures intended as examples to be copied. The templates linked there can be directly downloaded by the users and utilized for their own purposes.

Via the roles and rights management, external and internal stakeholders are being differentiated directly during login and get different access authorizations. Sensitive information and data are provided exclusively for selected groups.

Thanks to the underlying content management system, it is possible to update the guidelines centrally. This ensures that possible amendments of the corporate design will be diffused via the portal across the entire company. Printable PDF versions of the guidelines are automatically produced by the system. Numerous comfort functionalities and a sophisticated information architecture support the 15,000 users (as of March 2012) of the Henkel corporate design portal in their daily work, ensuring an efficient implementation of the brand completely in line with corporate design.
